Workshop ledger · winter 2026
A village no larger than your palm. One frozen pond. Thirty-seven warm windows. And snow that remembers precisely where it landed.
Northlight Village
Hand-blown glass · 1,842 settling flakes
Drag rapidly across the glass to stir the snow. Drag slowly or use the left and right arrow keys to tilt the globe and slide remembered drifts. Press Space or Enter to shake.
Press the brass plaque to take an impression of the current remembered snow drift.
Turn the workshop key to light all thirty-seven village windows and send the skater on one last circuit.
Every landing leaves a trace.
Every tilt rewrites the hill.
I · The cabinet of weather
Each dome is blown for its own climate. Touch a globe to bring it forward and open its handwritten workshop card.

II · The forbidden recipe
Plastic glitter flashes. Our snow glows. Elian grinds chipped bone china into five irregular grades, so no two flakes catch the light alike.
From misfired saucers bought by the crate in Stoke-on-Trent.
Not for scent. It breaks the surface tension and stops clumping.
Measured against a silver wire until one flake falls in seven seconds.
III · One glassblower, one winter
“A globe is finished when the village feels far away, but the weather feels close enough to touch.”
Elian Voss has worked alone above Vale’s old clock shop since 1987. He turns each dome at a blue oxygen flame, watching its reflection in a black tea saucer. When the sphere becomes perfectly round, the hot glass makes a small descending note. That is the sigh.
Every miniature is cut at the same bench his grandmother used for music boxes. The houses are limewood. The windows are rice paper washed with saffron. A village takes eleven evenings; the weather, one exacting morning.
IV · Anatomy of a small miracle
Two millimetres thick at the crown, three at the seal.
Five particle grades create natural eddies and slow, uneven drifts.
Sealed in seven coats of marine varnish, painted under magnification.
Storm-felled timber, waxed with beeswax from the abbey orchard.
V · The 2026 winter book
Four commission places open on the first frost. Bring a street, a story, and the hour of light you remember. Elian will build the weather around it.
Enquiries are answered by hand on Tuesdays. No 2 remembered places are repeated.
